Partnership With Turo (Announcement)

We regret to inform you that Turo has decided to remove the external access to their API as of April 30. Such a decision leads to the ending of the partnership between CarSync and Turo, as CarSync will also be restricted from accessing their API.

We understand that this period might not be enough for some of you to reorganize your business and transition to Turo’s tools. Please note that we will support you through this process as best as we can. All our features will be fully operational until April 30th.

Although we do not expect Turo to change their decision, we want you to know that CarSync is open to talking about cooperation having the best interest of the car sharing community in mind.

We have prepared a FAQ with answers to common questions below.

  1. What can we do to help?

There’s been a lot of pushback from hosts on this matter. If Turo’s decision to turn off external API access hurts your business, you could take the following steps:

  • Let your rep know what effect this will have on your business. Contact your account manager, schedule a meeting with your host success manager, or email them.

No matter what action you plan to take, don’t forget that the main goal is to start a conversation and raise awareness of how helpful third-party apps have been for scaling and managing your fleet.

2. Can you build X based on email forwarding or some other way without API?

Our understanding of Turo’s decision is that they want a closed system without external tools. We will respect their decision and won’t oppose it. If they decide to have a developer program in the future, we will consider it.

3. How will this affect the customers that are on the ORP policy?

There will be no impact to your coverage. The Lula team will be continuing the Off-Rental program in partnership with Turo. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the LULA representative responsible for this program at rafi@lula.is.

4. What is happening with HQ integration after April 30th?

You will not be charged after April 30th for the HQ integration. There are ideas to support EV and tolls for HQ in the future, but this would launch as a separate product.

5. Will I be able to access my CarSync account past April 30th?

Yes, you will be able to access your account.

6. What are your plans moving forward?

We are still finalizing our plans. As we pivot away from car sharing automation, we would still like to engage with this community in some way. We will be sending a short survey about CarSync future soon.
